A successful start to the UAS community talks: Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences offers practical insights into project management : Date:
Receiving a grant approval letter is a moment of great joy, but the question soon arises: How can a funded project be successfully managed in collaboration with the university administration, partners, and the project sponsor? To kick off the new online series ‘UAS community talks‘, Prof. Dr. Robin Langebach and Markus Kuttelwascher from Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences provided concrete insights into tried-and-tested processes and practical tools, and shared their experiences.
Around 150 participants tuned in to the launch event for the new online series ‘UAS community talks’ on 5 May. The series was kicked off with a practical presentation on the topic: “Optimal project management through effective communication between project management and university administration” by Prof. Dr Robin Langebach, Professor of Compressor Technology and Refrigeration Engineering, and Markus Kuttelwascher, Project Manager and Management Representative at the Centre of Applied Research (CAR) at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences.
Tried-and-tested tips from the field
Drawing on their respective perspectives as project managers and representatives of the research administration, the speakers presented specific approaches and measures that have proven their worth in day-to-day project work. In doing so, they deliberately looked beyond individual funded projects: close and trusting cooperation between project management and university administration creates structures and builds up practical knowledge that is valuable for future applications and cross-project work. The topics covered ranged from structured processes in project workflow and procurement, through well-planned onboarding and training, to communication with the funding body. To provide practical examples, the speakers offered an open look at the tools and working materials. These included, for instance, Excel dashboards for project management, document templates and internal guidelines on folder structures and file naming conventions. The focus was consistently on how project management, the project team, and university administration can work together successfully through clear communication, structured processes, and mutual trust
The response from participants was enthusiastic: many used the chat to actively raise questions. The insights into the concrete processes of another UAS were considered particularly valuable.
