Security-relevant research is gaining increasing importance in Germany and Europe. At the same time, many universities face open questions: Which funding pathways exist? Which stakeholders are relevant? What requirements apply with regard to classified information protection, export control or intellectual property? The guide brings together answers to frequently asked questions, thereby creating a well-founded basis for internal university discussions and decision-making processes.

"Research and innovation are of fundamental importance for Germany's internal and external security. They are drivers of technological sovereignty and new capabilities for the Bundeswehr and for authorities and organisations with security responsibilities. At the same time, uncertainties and reservations about security-relevant research still exist in many places. With this FAQ, we aim to address this and hopefully make it easier for many university leaderships and researchers to find their way into security-relevant research," says Prof. Dr. Christian Hummert, Research Director of the Cyberagentur.

Orientation for a complex subject area

From thematic fields to funding mechanisms, security requirements to questions of intellectual property (IP): the guide brings together key questions and helps to systematically incorporate frequently asked questions into discussions and decision-making processes, offering potential applicants orientation in advance. It is aimed at university leaderships as well as research departments and researchers dealing with related questions or considering participation in security-relevant research projects.

The FAQ is designed as a growing document and is to be continuously supplemented with further questions and practical experience. The guide is now available on the German U15 website.
