During the opening of the new extension building at the ASH Berlin (Alice Salomon Hochschule), the project Transdisciplinary Democracy and Education Research (TransDeBiFo) was introduced to the general public as well as to representatives from government and politics. As part of the exhibition “SAGE Research at ASH,” the project team provided information about the project goals, working structures, and prospects.

The TransDeBiFo project (project ref. no.: 13HAW018FQ), funded via HAW-ForschungsraumQualifizierung, aims to further develop democratic educational processes as well as inclusive school and all-day care structures. In six transdisciplinary research workshops, researchers, students, and partners from the field collaborate at the intersection of education and social work research. They develop practical solutions and work to strengthen their implementation in schools, municipalities, and social institutions. The project thus contributes to the further development of evidence-based approaches to democracy education while simultaneously strengthening cooperation between universities, educational institutions, and local stakeholders. Through the close integration of research, training, and practice, sustainable structures for knowledge transfer and innovation in educational and social contexts are created.

An important project milestone was reached with the completion of the planning phase for the research space. This research space will provide the infrastructural foundation for long-term collaboration between research, teaching, and professional practice. The university is currently planning a doctoral program in collaboration with the Freie Universität Berlin, which is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2026. At the same time, preparations are underway for the university conference “Day of Educators,” which will take place on June 3, 2026, at the ASH Berlin.

The official opening of the research centre is scheduled for the second quarter of 2026. In preparation for this, the organizational and programmatic foundations for launching various research and knowledge transfer activities are currently being laid. The goal is to establish a permanent, networked research and training centre once it becomes operational.
